WWE SmackDown Spoilers, Results for May 5, 2016: Bullet Club with AJ Styles, Roman Reigns in Main Event
Kansas City, Missouri, was home to the latest "SmackDown" taping, which will air on Cinco de Mayo.
The Highlight Reel
Chris Jericho opened the show with The Highlight Reel segment. He first spoke about his attack on Dean Ambrose during "Monday Night Raw," which saw Jericho hit Ambrose with Mitch, the potted plant. The segment continued with Jericho's guest: Sami Zayn. WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz, with Maryse, interrupted the segment. Jericho got angry and left the ring, but it allowed for the first match of the show: Zayn vs. The Miz in a non-title match.
Zayn went on to win the match due to disqualification on Kevin Owens' part. Owens was also at commentary during the match. Cesaro then appeared to make the save for Zayn.
Tag Team Matches
The Vaudevillains defeated Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. After the match, Colin Cassady appeared and attacked Aiden English and Simon Gotch. But Big Cass wasn't done. He went on to attack Axel too.
Becky Lynch and Natalya defeated Emma and WWE Women's Champion Charlotte. Natalya was able to secure the win with the Sharpshooter on Emma.
Rusev Crush
The new No. 1 contender for the WWE United States Championship, Rusev, defeated Zack Ryder. After the match, Lana and Rusev celebrated the win until United States Champion Kalisto came down and struck Rusev.
Backstage Segments
Throughout the show, AJ Styles is featured in a couple segments. First, he meets with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. Anderson and Gallows told Styles he has to be extreme in order to defeat Roman Reigns -- his opponent at "Extreme Rules" for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Later, Styles sees Reigns and asked if the champion is going to interfere in the main event of The Usos vs. Anderson and Gallows. Reigns said he is free to go wherever he pleases since the Usos are family and his status as champion.
Also backstage, Fandango is showing Goldust a few dance moves. R-Truth and Tyler Breeze appear and apparently this backstage segment ends with all four dancing.
Finally, Darren Young is shown approaching WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund. Young says he needs a life coach, and Backlund accepts the role. The duo apparently starts the catchphrase "Make Darren Great Again."
Main Event
The Usos vs. Anderson and Gallows ends in disqualification after Reigns interferes. This isn't the end of the show, however, as the four-main tag-team match evolves to a six-man tag match: Usos and Reigns against Anderson, Gallows and Styles. Reigns scored the win with a spear on Anderson. The show ended with Reigns and Styles in a staredown.
"WWE SmackDown" airs weekly on Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST.
