In the buildup to the penultimate episode of Season 9 of "Bones," the show has released a handful of preview clips that shows Sweets interacting with a new love interest and Booth and Brennan exploring the world of drag.

In the upcoming May 12 episode, which is titled "The Drama in the Queen," the Jeffersonian crew will investigate the death of a college swim coach named Brian Thomas whose remains were discovered at the bottom of a well. Initially, Brennan and Sweets believe that Brian may have been having an affair, however, through their investigation they will discover that he lived a secret life as a drag queen, reports Hollywood Hills.

However, because Booth is preoccupied with preparing to testify before a Congressional sub-committee, he will hand over the murder case to Sweets, giving him the opportunity to take lead in an investigation for the very first time. Although he is poignant, a teaser video shows that Sweets becomes a bit overzealous when he takes charge.

In an exclusive video interview, executive producer Stephen Nathan revealed that Sweets will face "a unique set of challenges" in this case, reports E! News. Plus, a new intern, played by "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries" actress Laura Spencer, will catch his eye. "Not only the plethora of drag queens that he has to deal with, but also a new intern that shows up in the lab. Immediately there is tension between her and Sweets," teased the EP.

Nathan told TVLine that "Sweets will meet and be intrigued by a new intern."

Another preview clip shows Booth and Brennan walking into a nightclub filled with drag queens. According to Nathan, the Jeffersonian team will be "visiting the world of drag queens, which is a first for us and for our team."

CarterMatt.com posted the synopsis for "The Drama in the Queen," which states:

"The Jeffersonian team investigates the death of Brian Thomas, the head swim coach at a community college, whose remains were found dumped at the bottom of a well. When possible suspects tell Brennan and Sweets that Brian may have been having an affair, the team digs a little deeper only to find details of Brian's secret life. Meanwhile, Sweets fills in for Booth in the investigation while Booth prepares to testify before a Congressional subcommittee and the Jeffersonian team gets a new intern (guest star Laura Spencer) who catches Sweets' attention."

"Bones" S9E23, "The Drama in the Queen," airs Monday, May 12 at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
