A New Jersey woman and her family have just won the sixth largest Powerball jackpot in the history of the game -- an amount that comes to $429 million.
Pearlie Mae Smith, a mother of seven and a church pastor who lives in Trenton, will share her winnings with her seven children.
According to her daughter, Valerie Marie Arthur, Smith received the winning numbers -- which were 5, 25, 26, 44, 66, and 9 -- in a nocturnal vision.
During a press conference last Friday, Arthur, a retired N.J. Department of Corrections employee, said, “Divine intervention provided the winning numbers to my mother in a dream.”
This Jackpot Is No Joke
The family plans on giving away 10 percent of their winnings to religious-affiliated organizations.
Aside from their plans to tithe, the siblings say that they have student loans and mortgages to take care of, and feel that the Powerball money was a blessing from above.
Arthur had a tough time believing the good news at first. When her sister Marsha called her up to spread word of the family's new fortune, she though it was all a joke. "I said, 'Stop April fooling me and get off my phone,' and she said 'I'm not. It's May. It's May,'" explained Arthur.
"We won the Powerball and I haven't slept since then," she added.
