'I'm With Her': Watch President Obama Endorse Hillary Clinton as 'Presumptive' Democratic Party's Presidential Nominee
It might have been an awkward meeting between President Barack Obama and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who met earlier on Thursday at the White House, only for Obama to later announce his support for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
"I'm With Her"
In a video released on early Thursday afternoon, Obama reiterated his congratulations to Clinton on making history, as the, presumptive Democratic nominee for president of the United States.
After noting some of her accomplishments, Obama said he wants "those of you who've been with me from the beginning of this incredible journey to be the first to know that I'm with her. I am fired up and I cannot wait to get out there and campaign for Hillary."
In the video, the president does acknowledge the concerns that the Democratic Party's primary might have divided supporters, but he noted the same concerns were made eight years ago when he campaigned against Clinton.
He thanked Sanders for running an incredible campaign and recognized him on highlighting issues such as income inequality, campaign finances and engaging the youth in the political process.
"Secretary Clinton and Senator Sanders may have been rivals during this primary but they're both patriots who love this country and they are a vision for the America that we all believe in," said Obama.
In a statement following the official endorsement, the Clinton campaign announced Obama will join her in Wisconsin for a campaign stop on June 15.
Sanders Continues Campaigning
Regardless of the endorsement, Sanders has confirmed he will continue campaigning and has a rally scheduled on Thursday evening. Sanders said he will campaign through Washington, D.C.'s primary, scheduled for next Tuesday, which will be the final primary contest in the Democrat Party's primary season.
Sanders insisted he'll be at the Democratic National Convention to ensure principles he's long supported for are heard.
