It was a rough season for Kobe Bryant. His Los Angeles Lakers finished 27-55, good enough for 14th in the Western Conference, and Bryant missed almost the entire season due to injuries. Recently, the five-time NBA champion sat down for an interview with Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the team's embattled season. 

Kimmel asked Bryant what he thought about Mike D'Antoni unexpectantly resigning as the Lakers head coach and choosing not to return next season. Bryant responded, "honestly I didn't care, Mike was dealt a really bad hand in dealing with all the injuries that he had here. This is a tough place man. If you're not winning, you're not going to survive man."

After D'Antoni's resignation, Hall of Fame point guard, Magic Johnson tweeted "happy days are here again" and has since deleted the tweet. Although D'Antoni was not a great coach and not very well liked in Los Angeles, he wasn't fully to blame.

Oddly, Bryant said that Johnson's response reminded him of the 1939 classic, "The Wizard of Oz." Bryant said, "the first thing I thought of was seeing the munchkins on the yellow brick road dancing and singing, 'the wicked witch is dead.' When he tweeted that, the song just came to mind."

The Los Angeles Lakers are still in search of a head coach, and with Phil Jackson in New York City, options are limited. Bryant told Kimmel that he did not have any input with the last two coaching decisions of hiring Mike Brown and D'Antoni. Bryant says he "hopes" that Lakers management will let him have input when determining the next head coach. Bryant also said that he has kept in touch with Phil Jackson and expects him to do a good job with the New York Knicks

As far as this postseason is concerned, Bryant could care less. "Doesn't really matter to me, because I'm not winning so what the hell do I care who wins?," Bryant responded to Kimmel asking him about the Los Angeles Clippers postseason. 

Bryant later told Kimmel how he looks up to Michael Jordan and how he was his idol growing up. He even explained that Jordan challenged Bryant after he scored 81 points in 2006. "After I scored 81, he was barking on how I could never do it against him." That would have been an interesting matchup for basketball fans to watch.
