'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Release Date & Cast: 'Rise' Sequel Stars Serkis, Oldman, Russel in Battle for Earth Domination [Trailer]
After the previous versions of the film in 1968, 2001, and the most recent prequel in 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," the "Planet of the Apes" franchise has released its latest trailer for the upcoming movie "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." This time, as the trailer suggests, apes have outnumbered humans with the main goals of domination and survival.
Twentieth Century Fox released a couple of trailers, which feature both the action scenes and much of the plot, picking up where the last film ended.
The story of the next installment continues the plot of the last film in the franchise where an ultra-intelligent simian, Caesar, orchestrates the fall of human civilization. However, the growing population of genetically evolved apes is threatened by a group of humans who survived the deadly virus released a decade earlier. At the brink of extinction, both groups are pushed to the edge of survival leading them to a war that will eventually determine who will emerge as the more dominant species on the planet Earth.
In the trailer, ape leader Caesar is shown attempting restraint, but the war between apes and humans is inevitable. As previews hinted, the volatile cold war heats up in this upcoming film as both humans and apes alike are shown to collect weapons in preparation for battle. Now that they are ready to dominate the planet, the apes are already being taught how to read and write by their simian superior.
Directed by Matt Reeves, "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is set to hit the big screen on July 11, 2014, starring Andy Serkis as Caesar, Gary Oldman as Dreyfus, Jason Clarke as Malcolm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Alexander, Keri Russel as Ellie, and Judy Greer as Cornelia.
