Future, Kanye West Criticized for Sexist ‘I Won' Video Game That Captures Trophy Wives With Chains
Future and Kanye West's "I Won" video game is being criticized for being "sexist."
Future's Kanye West-assisted track "I Won," originally dubbed as "Trophy Wife," toasts the pair's engagement to two beautiful women, Ciara and Kim Kardashian. A new video game inspired by their latest collaboration, which features players tossing chains at bikini-clad women who then become trophies, is now raising eyebrows for objectifying women.
"Move mouse left to right to direct the dotted line," the game's instructions say before clicking the "Start the Game" button. "Click the left mouse button to toss a chain on your trophy (tap on mobile). Yo but wait! Hold before releasing to increase toss height and add them style points to your game."
Once the game starts, the Atlanta rapper's hook plays in the background: "I just want to take you out and show you off / You already know that you the perfect one / Girl when I'm with you, feel like a champion / Ever since I got with you I feel like I done won me a trophy / A trophy, I won me a trophy / I won, I won, I won / A trophy."
Ever since its release, there have been numerous criticisms of the game, with some saying how it is disrespectful towards women. The Huffington Post condemed the nature of the video game: "When Future and Kanye West released ‘I Won' back in April, Future said the song was intended to be ‘uplifting' for women. That warranted a conversation about an intersectional understanding of marriage. The horrifyingly sexist video game that Future released this week as a companion to the song? Really only warrants a conversation about the next available time you can take a shower. Behold, the 8-bit version of objectification, in which players attempt to acquire a trophy wife, by chucking gold chains at bikini-clad women, turning them into literal trophies."
