Yelp Argentina Launches, Expanding the Company's Latin American Footprint
Yelp's expansion into Latin American continued with their launch in Argentina. For Yelp, the occasion was compared to Argentina's game-winning goal by Diego Maradona at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
Yelp, which connects people to local businesses since 2004, announced its availability in Argentina with "Yelp Argentina." Argentinians are now able to create accounts on Yelp.com.ar and express opinions about local businesses. The company's expansion in Argentina also includes the mobile applications for Apple iOS and Google Android devices, for free, which features a free suite of business owner tools known as "Yelp Business Owners," or "Yelp Para Empresas."

With the "Yelp Business Owners," a business owner can create a profile, communicate with clients, and have statistic consultations for free.
"Our 27th country is one of the world's largest wine producers and known for their top quality leather goods," said Yelp's New Markets Vice President Miriam Warren. "Whether you're looking for a meaty Malbec, a delicious dulce de leche, or a cowhide belt to hold up your pants while exploring Argentina's diverse landscape, locals will now be able to find their favorite businesses on Yelp."
Yelp's presence in Argentina marks the third Latin American country for the company following Brazil and Mexico.
"Yelp is excited to be a part of Argentina, with our community building efforts beginning in Buenos Aires. Whether shopping in Recoleta, tangoing in San Telmo, or bar-hopping in Palermo, Argentinians will now be able to use Yelp to connect with their favorite businesses across the country," added Warren on Yelp's blog.
According to Yelp, Argentina, with its 40 million population, is an "exercise in contrasts" as it features the highest mountain point for the Western and Southern Hemispheres, the Aconcagua, and the lowest peak with Laguna del Carbon.
"Argentinian food is a treat for carnivores since the locals are almost ritualistic in their consumption of asado: barbecue so beloved it has been exalted to a national symbol by decree," Yelp's new markets vice president stated. "Another Argentinian tradition is mate, a caffeine-rich infusion sipped with a metal straw from a communal gourd (pro-tip: if you are warned, 'no es un micrófono,' it's time to pass it on)."
According to Yelp, the service had an average of 132 million unique visitors during the first quarter of 2014, per data by Google Analytics. By the end of the first quarter, Yelp featured more than 57 million reviews on local businesses. Yelp, based in San Francisco, has since established itself in major cities across the world including Austria, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Spain, and Singapore, to name a few.
