Rosario Dawson Planning Protests at Democratic National Convention
Rosario Dawson will be on hand and ready to protest at the upcoming Democratic National Convention, even if it comes to mean her being led away in handcuffs and spending another night behind bars.
"Oh, yeah, I am definitely going to the DNC, and I'll definitely be protesting outside of the DNC," the "He Got Game" actress recently shared with reporters.
Dawson infamously spent a few hours in custody last April, when she and other "Democracy Spring" protesters took to the streets in the Nation's Capital to make their feelings known.
Dawson one of Bernie Sanders Most Vocal Supporters
An advent supporter of Vermont Sen. and Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, Dawson admits she is protesting "everything basically."
When pressed to narrow things down to a few more specifics, Dawson shares things like "the collusion between the media and the Hillary Clinton campaign" and "the terrible debate structure" are things that bother her and other protesters.
"We want to get rid of super delegates," she added. "We want primaries, universal health care, education, pretty much everything we had behind Bernie Sanders."
So adept at having her voice heard has Dawson become, she recently spent a few days in Chicago training others on the art of civil disobedience with the convention just a few weeks away.
Dawson Skilled in art of Protest
Among the situations she prepared them for was the emotional toll of being cuffed and led away to a jail cell, something she can directly speak to.
"It's about talking to people through the whole process," she said "How they felt chanting together, arms locking, how they felt when we started taking people to arrest them. It is really good to take them through all of that. It is an emotional thing, and you are going to be surrounded by potentially a million people. It is really intense."
At the moment, Dawson insists she remains loyal to Sanders, but quickly adds the movement she is a part of is bigger than any one person.
"I have never gotten behind any candidate before," she said. "I was actually inspired to get behind Bernie, I don't see that just shifting over to anybody, but I'm about the issues and the people."
