‘Empire’ Season 3 Spoilers: Is Rhonda or Anika Dead? Will Jamal Ever Sing Again? [VIDEO]
“Empire” Season 3 returns to FOX in the fall and fans are anxious to see what happened with Anika Calhoun (Grace Gealey) and Rhonda Lyon (Kaitlin Doubleday) during their final fight.
In the Season 2 finale, Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) stumbles upon his wife and Anika fighting over a balcony. Right at the end of the show, it looks like one of the girls were thrown off.
Rhonda and Anika Fight
Rhonda was angry because she knows that it was Anika who pushed her down the stairs, forcing her to lose her baby boy. And now that Anika is pregnant with Hakeem Lyon’s (Bryshere Y. Gray) child, the Lyons are concerned with her safety.
Was it Anika who was pushed off of the balcony? Or did Anika push Rhonda off?
If Anika is dead, that solves the problem of someone having to testify against Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard). Although she married Lucious in order to not have to testify, it is very believable that she has an ulterior motive.
Anika’s Motive
Booboo Kitty spent most of Season 2 trying to make Lucious’ life miserable.
Why now prove your loyalty to the back-stabbing greedy music mogul? If she is still alive, she will probably use Hakeem’s baby and her marriage to Luscious as leverage to get what she wants from the Lyon family. Is it their empire?
Jamal’s Promise
Meanwhile, Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) promised to never sing again until his family stops the violence.
Showrunner Ilene Chaiken tells TVLine that Jamal will keep his word.
“The question now is, can Jamal also bring his brothers and his mother along with him on this stance, and say ‘This is no longer how we have to go about our lives and our business?'” she asks.
Jamal’s Recovery
Jamal has to recover from a bullet wound because Freda Gatz (Bre-Z) tried to shoot Luscious for killing her father Frankie (Chris Rock).
Although Jamal is angry that he was caught in the crossfire, he may still reach out to Freda to stop the violence.
“It’s not over,” Chaiken says. “Jamal understand she’s a victim, but he still has to deal with the fact that she shot him. It was a hugely traumatizing event that she perpetrated on him. But he believes in her and in the mission of ending the cycle. So he’s going to have to do something about it.”
“Empire” returns to FOX on Wednesday Sept. 21 at 9 p.m.
