Korea Republic visits Syria meet in the AFC World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.
Korea is coming off a solid 3-2 win over China. The team jumped out to a 3-0 lead 65 minutes into the game and looked primed for an easy home victory. But China would not be contained and came back with two quick strikes in the 73rd and 76th minutes to cut the lead to 3-2. Korea Republic held on for the win but there were concerns over the team's defensive instability.
Korea is looking to compete in its ninth straight World Cup after missing out between 1958 and 1982. The team's best finish came in 2002 when it was the fourth best side at the tournament. The team was ousted in the group stage of the three most recent tournaments.
Syria kicked off its campaign with a loss against Uzbekistan. Alexander Geynrikh scored in the 74th minute to give Uzbekistan the victory. Syria has never qualified for the World Cup in its history.
