Benfica and Besiktas meet in the Champions League 2016-17 on Tuesday. 

Benfica will look to take advantage of a relatively "easy" group in hopes of improving upon past performances in this tournament. The Portuguese side had another "easy" group last year with Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray and Astana as its main opponents. Benfica took its opportunity, winning three games, losing twice and drawing once en route to finishing second in the group with 10 points.

The ensuing round saw the team face Zenit St. Petersburg, which it duly dispatched 3-1 over two legs.

Things got complicate in the quarterfinals however with Benfica narrowly losing to Bayern Munich 3-2 across two legs. The team did manage a 2-2 draw at home and even held a 1-0 lead early on. If not for a 1-0 loss in Munich, the team might have had a chance at a better outlook to the tournament.

Besiktas was a not a participant in the UCL last season.

Prediction

Benfica is the home side, the more seasoned side and likely the favored team. This one however will end in a surprising 1-1 draw.
