US Open 2016: Serena Williams vs. Karolina Pliskova & Caroline Wozniacki vs. Angelique Kerber; Starting Time, Live Streaming
The U.S. Open 2016 semifinals for Women’s Tennis starts tonight Thursday Sept. 8 with Serena Williams going against Karolina Pliskova at 7 p.m. EST. After their match, Tennis stars Angelique Kerber and Caroline Wozniacki will play against each other starting at 9 p.m. EST.
Williams upset Simona Halep Wednesday night while Pliskova is on a 10-match win streak. Will the 34-year-old beat her 24-year-old opponent? Although Williams beat Pliskova in straight sets two years ago, Pliskova’s streak had her upset two women just below Williams’ rank; Kerber and Garbine Muguruza.
Serena Williams vs. Karolina Pliskova
Even with Pliskova’s win streak, Williams put on one of the best US Open Women’s tennis matches in last night’s game, upsetting Halep 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
“I was rather positive today, and that’s not normal. I’m just going to go with it,” Williams said after the match adding that she is ready for the semifinals.
“There will be a lot of aces in that match,” Williams said of the popular tennis players competing in Thursday night’s games. “But regardless, I’m happy to be in the semifinals, and I look forward to it. I have nothing to lose. I’ll just go for it.”
Pliskova is ready for tonight’s match as well, although she does not deny the No. 1 seed’s strength.
“She’s a big hitter, and she can have 50 winners and you cannot do much about it,” Pliskova said. “But I still am going to hope that there is going to be some chance in the match where I can get my chance and be the one who is playing aggressive.”
Angelique Kerber vs. Caroline Wozniacki
Wozniacki made it to the semifinals after upsetting Anastasija Sevastova 6-0, 6-2. Now she is up against the No. 2 seed Kerber. Will she make it through?
In her last game, Kerber beat Roberta Vinci 7-5, 6-0. She stands a good change against the No. 74 seed.
“I always believe in myself, no matter what my ranking,” Wozniacki said. “I’ve beaten pretty much everyone in the draw before.”
Wozniacki was the No. 1 seed in the past. Will she move up in ranks after tonight’s games?
