2016 Presidential Polls: Hillary Clinton Still Holds Sizeable Electoral College Vote Edge, Tops in key Swing States
Hillary Clinton appears well on her way to securing the 270 electoral votes needed to ascend to the White House based on the latest findings in a Freedom Lighthouse electoral map poll.
Pollsters found Clinton now stands at 250 votes, nearly 100 more than the 164 now tabbed for Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Clinton Almost at Needed 270
Surveyors concluded Clinton leads in such critical swing states as Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire and Virginia. In addition, the former secretary and first lady also holds leads in such electoral vote rich states as California, Illinois, New York and New Jersey.
Ohio, Florida, Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado are all still considered too close to call, while Trump holds leads in such states as Alabama. Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.
Clinton on top in Quinnipiac Count
Meanwhile, a recent Quinnipiac University general election swing state poll finds Clinton on top in two of four states surveyed and tied with Trump in another.
In Pennsylvania, Clinton leads by five points (48 percent to 43 percent) and in North Carolina she leads by four (47 percent to 43 percent).
In Florida, the two are deadlocked at 47 percent each, and Trump is on top by just a point in Ohio at 46 percent to 45 percent.
"The obvious takeaway from these numbers is that Donald Trump has staged a comeback from his post-Democratic convention lows, especially in Pennsylvania and Ohio," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll. "Taking a bit longer view, however, we see a race that appears little changed from where it was as the GOP convention began in July, and at least in these four key states is very much up for grabs."
Overall, pollsters also found Clinton leads by a range of 42 to 71 points among non-white voters, while Trump is tops among whites by a range of 8 to 30 points. Clinton also tops Trump women by as much as 20 points, while his lead among males swells to as much as 22 points.
