'Divergent' Movie Cast & Review: Sequel 'Insurgent' Adds Octavia Spencer, Announces Release Date for Next March
Summit Entertainment announced on March 20 that a "Divergent" sequel movie is in the works. Entitled "Insurgent", its tentative release date is on March 20, 2015. Tasked to write the story is Brian Duffield, screenwriter of "Jane Got a Gun." Robert Schwentke willl be directing the sequel.
"Divergent" is an American sci-fi action movie based on Veronica Roth's novel of the same title. Directed by Neil Burger, it was released in March 2014 with Lucy Fisher, Douglas Wick and Pouya Shabazian as producers. Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor wrote the script. The setting of the story is a dystopian post-apocalyptic version of Chicago where citizens are strictly divided into different groups representing human virtues.
Critics gave mixed reviews of the first movie. As of the time of writing, it got a 41 percent rating from Rotten Tomatoes with a median score of 5.4/10 from 189 critics. However, the film got "A" from the Cinemascore, where the surveyed group consisted of 69 percent female half of it is over 25 years old.

Joining the cast of "Divergent" in its sequel "Insurgent", Octavia Spencer will will be playing the role of Johanna, Amity's leader. Spencer won an Oscar for the movie "The Help" in 2012. Amity is a group dedicated to kindness, trust, forgiveness, self-sufficiency and peacefulness, but they may not readily help the heroes of the story for fear of violating their much-valued neutrality.
