Scientists Discovery of the Incredible Giant Comet; Tells about Global Warming
The unexpected discovery of the giant comet, scientist says that the asteroid smashed and heated up the Earth 56 million years ago. In Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, researchers found out that the comet has collided with the Earth 10 million years after the extinction of the dinosaurs. It is likely the cause of a global warming event called 'Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum'.
As scientist was supposedly looking for an ancients fossils, stumbled on what are known as microtektites, which looks like "shocked quartz" or dark glass spheres which are indications of an extraterrestrial object colliding with the earth with an incredible force and speed. According to Morning Ticker, the institute found three microtektites per gram of sediment that has examined and it's quite a lot.
Scientist study shows that the comet impact contributed to global warming, as CSMonitor says. And scientist thinks that it could lead to a huge spike in global temperatures which likely the rise of 5-8 degree celsius in the next 150,000, also the extinction of many species and the rise in sea level.
"This tells us that there was an extraterrestrial impact at the time this sediment was deposited - a space rock hit the planet, The coincidence of an impact with a major climate change is nothing short of remarkable." Says, Morgan Schaller.
Dennis Kent, one of the study's authors, argued for a decade that ancient climate change might cause by a comet where comet's impact like the one, created microtektites may have released carbon into the atmosphere and triggering the feedback loop that causes the rapid warmed here on earth, Dr. Kent believed.
However, other scientists say that it just a small impact indicated by microtektites to have caused such massive climate change. Scientist other explanation includes the increased volcanism.
