Foods and beverages that trigger migraine
A recent study conducted showing reasons why certain foods and beverages may the cause of a migraine. A team of researchers who was led by scientists from University of California San Diego School of Medicine analyzed stool and oral samples around 2,200 individuals and it shows, that those who suffered from migraines had a higher level of microbes.
Dr. Davis, a neurologist at University Hospitals from North Midland says that people who usually get migraines may have a gut bacteria that is really efficient at processing nitrates. Like those, we can found mostly in the processed meat, chocolates, and wines. It actually produces much of nitric oxide in the bloodstream which overworks the vessels of the brain and causes a migraine, Via Pop Sugar.
Moreover, The compounds of the aforementioned food are composed of nitrogen atom with three oxygen atoms. Other bacteria that live within the mouths are Rothia Mucilaginosa and Haemophilus parainfluenzae, that breaks down these nitrates for their own food. In doing so, the bacteria remove one of the oxygen atoms from nitrates, which resulted into a chemical byproduct called Nitrite.
A body of a person has trillions of bacteria that live throughout. It extracts nutrients from the food and extracts what bodies doesn't need. So, does the bacteria and the waste they create can affect the body. For those who have suffered migraine should avoid the foods mentioned but having those microbes may benefit in improving their heart health.
Most of the patients with a heart failure often prescribed Nitrites to regulate condition and as a side effect, they suffer from a migraine. UCSD found a connection between a migraine and nitrite-producing bacteria but the institute didn't confirm that the bacteria is the main cause. Antonio González Peña says that his team will conduct another research at the patients with various types of a migraine to see if there's any way to connect the bacterias to this common illness, according to Quartz.
In a Statement Antonio González Peña said "we will have a magical probiotic mouthwash for everyone that helps your cardiovascular health without giving you migraines."
