Tesla to feature “Self Driving” level 5 Hardware systems
Tesla vehicles is all set to feature the new self driving system, the current autopilot system is accomplished with level 2 autonomy. But the CEO of Tesla Elon Musk stated that the new hardware which is going to be launched is independent of level 5 operation.
It requires a whole lot of technology that needs to be put at work; the equipment will consist of 8 surrounded cameras in order to cover a 360 degree visibility with a long range of 250 meters. Out of the 8 cameras 3 will be facing forward to cover the range as reported on Motor Trend.
The car is supposed to navigate freeways without any driver's effort, and the lower two tier system will enable the car to navigate on its own. According to Car and Driver, there is another hardwarewhich is called the "Full Boat System" this system will help in the navigation in urban environments.
The forward cameras are said to be positioned in front of the rear view mirror and the rear facing camera lens will be hoisted above the license plate. With the high end technology Musk says that it will be a super computer in a car.
Every new Tesla including model 3 is said to get hardware for full autonomy, as per Tesla the update will arrive in December or January. Tesla has been working hard to offer full service driving potential in its cars. They also stated that the safety level will be greater than a human driver.
It will also consist of 12 ultrasonic sensors which will detect hard and soft objects almost twice the distance of its previous system. The new forward facing radar will have improved processing and capability of seeing through thick fog, heavy rain, dust and even another vehicle ahead.
With the latest technology Tesla seems to have taken the driving experience to a whole new level. It is certain to make driving easier and more comfortable.
