Inadequate or excessive sleeping may cause men to reduce chances of impregnating their partners, study finds
A new study shows that too little or too much sleep can affect a man's ability to impregnate her partner.
The hypothalamus coordinates the autonomic nervous system, which is divided into two - the sympathetic and parasympathetic, and the activity of the pituitary. It controls the body temperature -another homeostatic system involved in sleep and emotional activity.
Moreover, the hypothalamus hosts the Circadian rhythm, which handles the sleep cycle. It is said that the Circadian rhythm controls neurotransmitters, hormone production, enzymes, behavior, blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, metabolism, and other biochemical processes.
The study says female and male sexual fertility health can be affected by sleep disturbance. Most health professionals say that an adult is advisable to sleep seven to nine hours per night. If a person lacks sleep, they will feel drowsy during the day. Clumsiness, forgetfulness, and reduced testosterone levels can affect anyone who lacks sleep.
Lauren Wise, professor of epidemiology at Boston University School of Public Health, stated that "We found both short and long sleep duration - less than 6 hours or 9 or more per night were associated with a reduced probability of pregnancy." Researchers used 8 hours of sleep as their reference point. A man who sleeps less than six hours or more than nine hours daily within a given month are 42% less fertile, WebMD reports.
Danish researchers found out that most men experiencing sleep disturbances have 29% lower sperm concentration in their semen. Their results were based on semen and blood samples from 953 young men in Denmark recruited for the military between 2008 to 2011.
Dr. Remy Slama, a fertility expert at France's Joseph Fourier University, gave another factor affecting impregnation, which is influenced by being overweight, and exposure to tobacco smoke and pollutants, via Huffington Post.
Indeed, the ability of males to impregnate their partners can be caused by tiredness caused by lack of sleep.
