'Two and a Half Men' Season 11 Episode 21 Season Finale Recap: CBS Announces End of Sitcom
After 12 seasons, the popular CBS comedy "Two and a Half Men" will come to an end.
CBS network president Nina Tassler announced that the next season of television's longest-running comedy series will be the last while presenting CBS' new fall schedule on Wednesday morning. According to Tassler, show creator Chuck Lorre is "psyched" about plotting the show's goodbye.
"Chuck Lorre is creating a season-long event. We did very well last year with announcing final season of 'How I Met You Mother' here, too. Chuck is very psyched about this; he's got some great ideas and very big surprises," said Tassler during the network's pre-upfront press breakfast in New York, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "We know fans and audiences respond to that and that should really give us a nice boost when we launch our new comedy."
When asked if original star Charlie Sheen, who now stars on FX's "Anger Management," will return in the final season, Tassler said, "I would like to see whatever Chuck would like to. Chuck knows his show better than me... he has a lot of surprises in store, I don't know if that's one of them."
Sheen was famously fired from the show after he got into a public feud with Lorre in March 2011, reports E! News. He was then replaced by Ashton Kutcher, who became the highest-paid sitcom actor on TV during the run of Season 11. He earned about $700,000 per episode, while his co-star Jon Cryer earned $620,000 for every show.
In Season 11, the popular sitcom averaged 9.1 million viewers and 2.3 million viewers who fell into the 18-49 demographic, which is a drop in ratings from when Sheen starred on the show.
In the season finale last Thursday, Alan's fiancé Gretchen, played by reoccurring guest star Kimberly Williams-Paisley, ended up leaving him at the alter to run away with her ex-husband, who was played by her real-life husband Brad Paisley. As a result, Alan and Walden will continue living together in Walden's Malibu beach house as single bachelors. Walden's pet robot, who was referred to as both WALD-E and Jake throughout the episode, is the show's new half man.
