'La Banda' Boy Band TV Show: Univision and Simon Cowell Team Up for Latino Reality Singing Competition Series
He is the one who made One Direction, currently the biggest boyband in the world, possible -- Simon Cowell and his company, Syco Entertainment, are now teaming up with American Spanish broadcast television network Univision to launch a new reality singing competition show called "La Banda," which will aim to create the next Latino boyband.
"I'm delighted to be partnering with Univision on this new format," said Cowell. "They are fantastically ambitious and most importantly for 'La Banda' they are totally focused on discovering and creating the next music superstars. There is a huge opportunity for this band and we are going to be giving the power via this show to the millions of teenage fans."
The upcoming TV show is to feature contestants from South America, Central America, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean as they will compete for the number one title in "La Banda," as well as a prestigious recording contract with Syco Music and Sony Music Latin, which works with some of the biggest Latin singers, including Ricky Martin, Shakira, Marc Anthony, Romeo Santos, Chayanne and Prince Royce.
"Univision's collaboration with Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment is part of our commitment to innovation and to raising the bar in entertainment for our audiences and partners," said Alberto Ciurana, President of Programming and Content, Univision Communications Inc. "'La Banda' will tap into Hispanic America's passion for music unlike any other program on television and will bring millions of fans the next international musical sensation."
"Univision are the perfect partner for our format 'La Banda'; they are a multi-media powerhouse and the undisputed leaders in entertainment for the Latino audience," Senior Producer Kelly Belldegrun, who is in charge of the partnership for Syco Entertainment, added. "With such engaged live viewing this is the best place for our show."
"La Banda" is scheduled to air in 2015.
