Pacquiao-Vargas: Who will dominate the ring?
Boxing enthusiasts are now tuned with the Pacquiao-Vargas fight on Saturday. The incoming bout is predicted by many to be an entertaining one that boxing needs.
The match is seen to be very close with the ability both boxers have shown during their last fights. Manny Pacquiao outpointed Timothy Bradley during their trilogy in April while Jessie Vargas knocked-out the before unbeatable Sadam Ali which made him took home the belt, ESPN reported.
What quality both fighters now promised to dominate the fight?
First is power. We have seen how Pacquiao dominated most of his opponents because of power. The south paw ring warrior proved his power when he knocked out some of the best fighters in the world such as Miguel Cotto, Oscar Dela Hoya, Eric Morales and many others.
Jessie Vargas also showed his power when he knocked out the undefeated Joel Gonzales in first round during his pro debut in September 2008. He also won via knock out against Daniel Sarmiento of Argentina. Although Bradley won by unanimous decision against Vargas but the 12th round that put Bradley in danger showed that Vargas is having reserved power in the longer rounds. And the most recent is his knocked out win against Sadam Ali.
Second is speed. We can consider Pacquiao as gaining an edge if speed is concerned. We have proven his speed is also his power. He can throw lot of punches more than his opponent from any unexpected directions with amazing speed.
Then we should consider also the defense. Vargas has slight edge speaking of defense. He always stands behind his guard to trade punches and we can rely safety when he moves forward to make an attack. On the other hand, the aggressiveness of Pacquiao sometimes put him in trouble since it gives opportunity to counter-puncher opponents to return an effective shot. This can be seen with his fights with Juan Manuel Marquez, according to 1News UK.
How about the age? Of course Vargas acquires the advantage. Vargas is rising and the age level of Pacquiao is quite declining. Usually boxers reduced skills during such age. But then we can never tell exactly what would occur during the fight.
We have to wait and see.
