Maine residents voted to legalize marijuana for recreational purposes
Maine citizens have voted to legalize marijuana for recreational use in their state. The UN already tackled the world drug problem and eradicate illegal cocaine, opium and cannabis production back in 2008. The resolution of marijuana to be legalized is a stepping stone for the Maine residents.
In Thursday afternoon, the Associated Press announced the referendum about the tabulations of final results and took almost two days for it has a close race within a fraction of a percentage point. According to Fox News, voters of marijuana legalization had declared themselves as winners and predicted that marijuana would be legal around Christmas.
Sen. Eric Brakey of Auburn who just supported the ballot issue said: "Maine people have passed," he added that the government should work on implementing the marijuana legalization. Marijuana is now legal in Maine for medical assistance. It was advice that people who are 21 or older will be allowed to use up to 2½ ounces of marijuana.
Marijuana shops and social clubs are now open to the states. Some municipalities have resisted the idea at allowing such businesses to operate in their communities. Those who is not in favor have requested for a recount and Scott Gagnon, an organizer of anti-marijuana insisted the results and presume for another. Some of the parents and law enforcement organizations disagreed to the proposal, as Business Insider has reported.
Members of the medical marijuana community received perusal for their proposal, who say they fear for the possible reason that might replace the state's medical program. Distributing and selling marijuana is set to be taxed at 10% and must be considered for local restriction.
The US have been legalized marijuana in another form. On November 8, the four states have voted in approval of outright marijuana legalization: the state of California, Nevada, Massachusetts and Maine. Four states approve and allowed recreational use and sales.
