Friend Finder Network leaked accounts expose sexual secrets of hundred million users
Earlier this week on Election Day- a day absolutely guaranteed to take the focus off it- but over the weekend it came out that Friend Finder Network, an entertainment company has leaked more than 412 million user accounts and passwords.
Friend Finder Network that operates a wide range of 18+ services and this was hacked in October of 2016 for over 400 million accounts which make it by far the largest breach in the year.
This is the largest breach of 2016 and affected over 3 times more people than the LinkedIn profile account hack in 2012.
Yahoo's mess from 2014 had suffered an enormous security breach that resulted in 500 million users accounts being breached this included a wide variety of personal details such as names, birthdates, and security question and answer. But that is still coming back to bite them with Verizon's acquisition now on the fence, reported by The Hustle
The Friend Finder Network is combined with adult- friendly sites like Adultfriendfinder.com, Cams.com, Penthouse.com, and iCams.com.
Meanwhile, the strange thing was found when Leaked source analyzing the two decade's worth data and noticed that a "significant amount of users had an email in the format of email@address.com@deleted 1.com".
Turns out along with active accounts, so counting the amount of emails with "@deleted" near the end, Adult Friend Finder kept almost 16 million deleted accounts , so if you and your friends signed up as a joke back in 2001- you might have to change your passwords.
The password was stored by Friend Finder Network in plainly visible format. The method is not considered secure by any stretch of the imagination and furthermore, the hashed passwords seem to have been changed to all lowercase before storage which made them easier to attack but means that credentials will be slightly less useful for malicious hackers to abuse the real world.
Here are the common passwords uses as a login for AdultFriendFinder.com leak: 123456, 123456789, password and the personal mobile number.
