Angela Bassett joins Marvel's 'Black Panther' cast
Academy award nominee actress Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Marvel's upcoming movie "Black Panther." Marvel cinematic universe has confirmed that Bassett will be playing Queen Ramonda, mother of T'Chala aka Black Panther.
"Black Panther" has first appeared in Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War". After the massive success of "Civil War," MCU has decided to make a new standalone superhero movie for Black Panther, which is going to hit theaters on February 16, 2018. Production is expected to start in the first quarter of 2017. Chadwick Boseman will play the role of T'Chala, the prince of the African nation of Wakanda, who will rule Wakanda after his father T'Chaka's murder at Viena.
This film will also star Danai Guiria, Forest Whitaker, Martin Freeman,Michael B. Jordan, and of course, Angela Bassett. It is rumored that director Ryan Coogler will also add Andy Serkis for the character role of Ulysses Klaus.
Ramonda is not T'Chala's biological mother. Wakanda's former king T'Chaka married Ramonda after the death of his first wife N'Yami. She has died during the childbirth. After her death, Ramonda took over T'Chala's responsibilities and his sister Shuri. She was abducted and held captive by a man named Anton Pretorius until T'Challa rescued her and welcomed her back to Wakanda.
In 1994, Bassett was nominated for the Best Actress for What's Love Got to Do With It.
