The Spanish Version of 'The Vagina Monologues' Debuts Sunday in NYC With Kate del Castillo, Angélica Vale & Angélica Maria
"Los Monólogos de la Vagina," the Spanish-language version of "The Vagina Monologues" officially opens in New York City on May 17.
The cast has been performing preview shows, but just this week Angélica Vale performed for the very first time, and there was no one happier than Angélica Maria.
"Today we welcomed my mommy, Angélica Maria," she said on Twitter. "I admire you very much mommy. You can't miss her!"
She added that she's had a lot of trouble sleeping because of work and rehearsals, but she's still very happy.
"It's a rollercoaster of emotions, one which should be enjoyed," she said. "I'm very tired and we're only halfway through the week. The last two days I haven't slept much. Haha! But I'm smiling and ready to give it my all."
Morris Gilbert and Federico Gonzalez Compean are the producers, and Jaime Matarredona is directing the production. The play has been performed for 14 years in Spanish in Mexico, but this is the first time it is being performed in Spanish in New York City. Performances will be staged off Broadway at the Westside Theatre, where the production originally debuted.
The show is scheduled for a four-week run.
Kate del Castillo will next star in an original series on Telemundo called "Dueños del Paraíso." The story is inspired by real events that happened in the 1980s in Miami. Castillo will play Anastasia Cardona, the widow of a drug lord. It will focus on the drug war in South Florida.
"I'm excited to return to Telemundo for this big production," she said. "The story of Teresa Mendoza captivated not only audiences in the United States but also around the world."
The VP of executive programing Joshua Mintz said he was excited to have del Castillo on board.
