Empleon becomes the newest challenger for Pokken Tournament
Another character has been added to the roster of Pokken Tournament. In its upcoming update, Japanese Arcade players will get to use Empoleon, the water starter for Generation 4.
Starting December 15, Pokémon will be included on the arcade version of the crossover title. After the initial announcement, a trailer was released, showcasing the attacks it would be bringing in the fight, Silicon Era reports.
According to Nintendo Life, data miners have already seen the character's arrival as late as the last update. It was just a matter of waiting for the official announcement by the developers of the game.
Starting in July 2015, Pokken Tournament is a joint project between Nintendo's Pokémon characters and Tekken. Breaking away from the usual battles, this game features famous Pokémon characters, like Pikachu and Charizard, and placing them on Tekken-like fights.
Players can execute attacks from the original Pokémon games, like flamethrower and ice beam. Mega evolutions, which was introduced in X and Y, also made it in the game. To use it though, requires the player to do special attacks to charge up the Synergy meter.
Initially bringing eight Pokémon to the battle, the list of playable characters have now increased to 20, thanks to the addition of Empoleon. There are also around 60 who serve as assist Pokémon. Grouped in twos, they can be called to provide assistance during the battle.
Unlike most arcade systems, the controller used resembles a console-themed than the regular one. This is to not alienate longtime players of Pokémon, who may not be comfortable with the typical joystick.
The game was also ported to the Wii U, though not getting the same treatment as the arcade does. As of the moment, all updates for the game are directed to the Japanese exclusive arcade port. It did, however, add the boss character Shadow Mewtwo as an amiibo figure after its release, making it an available character after scanning.
