Chelsea vs. Newcastle United Recap, Analysis: Is Chelsea Favorite to Win Premier League Title?
Can Chelsea win the Premier League in 2013-14? The Blues certainly made their case on Saturday in a dominating 3-0 win over Newcastle United.
The victory shot the team into first place on the table with 56 points, one ahead of Arsenal and two ahead of Manchester City. The star of the show of course was Eden Hazard and his three goals. The Belgian continues to prove that comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are not as farfetched as they may seem. With the three markers, Hazard has now hit 12 goals and five assists for Chelsea in 2013-14, thus making the memory of the now-departed Juan Mata completely obsolete.
Jose Mourinho continues to look more and more like the genius that people have come to know. His squad, which struggled to find consistent form early in the year, has seemingly perfected his defensive system and has found ways to connect potently on the offensive. This has all come at a time when Arsenal's defense has started to fall apart (not to mention Mesut Ozil's fall from grace) and when Manchester City's Premier League-best offense has started to sputter.
Can Chelsea keep it up? The team is seemingly coming into its own and may be peaking at the right time.
However, that is not to say that the league has already been won. Chelsea has a date with Arsenal at home and still has to contend with a surging Liverpool that has the two best scorers in the league.
