Emma Stone in Disney’s “Cruella” Movie Will be a Musical with “Mozart in the Jungle” Director
It's a go, go, go for Disney's "Cruella" and captivating Emma Stone is set to play the sinister dog-napping villain. Emma has been eyed to play Cruella for sometime now and this year is her year as she begins it with the premiere of "La La Land" and a number of award nominations for her role in the movie. "Cruella" is also rumored to become a comedy musical as Alex Timbers of "Mozart in the Jungle" has been called to direct it.
Screen Rant has reported this new addition to Disney's long roster of live action movies and it said that the Golden Globe winning director actually was set to direct "Frozen" Broadway adaptation. This project did not push through but despite Timber's busy schedule next year, he still accepted "Cruella."
Meanwhile, Screen Crush said that Timbers will surely give musical justice to the "101 Dalmatians" villain with his successes on TV and on screen. He has been twice nominated for a Tony for best writer and director for movies "Peter and the Starcatcher" and "Oh, Hello." It is rumored that "Cruella" would be a movie about the villainess' background story and how she became very obsessed with fur.
The report also mentioned that the only projected downside to Timbers directing the film was that he is male and Cruella de Vil is of course, female. Will he be able to connect with a female lead character? Fans are now asking when will Disney hire a female director to give life to their female leads?
There is no release date yet for "Cruella" but Disney movie fans are sure that this will be a huge success with Emma Stone and Alex Timbers directing. It is expected that Disney will be announcing more information about "Cruella" to give fans more reason to anticipate its arrival.
