Billboard Music Awards Show 2014: Predictions of Winners and Losers in Top Categories
As we prepare to tune in to the 2014 Biillboard Music Awards hosted by Ludacris on Sunday, May 18, here are our predictions for the winners in the top categories for the annual chart-topping award show.
As Madamenoire explains, the BMA winners criteria is determined by the artist with the most airplay, sales, and downloads via Nielson data.
And since a Billboard winner obviously needs to have chart-topping success, our predictions are based off of which artists dominated the radio airwaves and had consistent success on the Billboard charts.
Let's take a look, shall we?
Top Artist
The finalists for Top Artist are Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, and Justin Timberlake, but we have to give it to Katy Perry.
Her hit, "Dark Horse," featuring Juicy J, has proven to be a success not only in the pop charts but the hip-hop charts as well. Perry has continued to prove herself as a chart topping "Top Artist" with her numerous hit songs and her currently successful "Prismatic Tour," so she's getting our vote.
Top Duo/Group
The finalists in this category include One Republic, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Florida Georgia Line and our predicted winner, Imagine Dragons.
Imagine Dragons have proven themselves as the band to beat both this year and last. Not to mention, Billboard named this rock band the "Breakthrough Band of 2013," so it makes sense why they would win this year's Top Duo award.
Top New Artist
In this category, we have Bastille, Capital Cities, Ariana Grande, Lorde and Passenger, but we have to give it to the pint-sized star with the enormous voice, Ariana Grande.
Don't let her size fool you, this new artist is taking the music world by storm with hit after hit since the release of her "Yours Truly" album last year. Her current hit "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea currently stands in the top five in the Billboard Top 100 chart and Grande has expanded her popularity among fans through her collaborations with various artists including Mac Miller, Iggy Azalea and Chris Brown.
Top Male Artist
Luke Bryan, Drake, Eminem, Bruno Mars, and Justin Timberlake are all included in this leading man category, but Justin Timberlake is our prediction to reign on top.
Justin's latest album, "The 20/20 experience," has done so well that it has become his second No. 1 album on the charts and the best-selling debut week of his solo career.
Top Female Artist
Our leading females in this category are Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Katy Perry and Rihanna.
Our vote? Beyoncé. Only Beyoncé can put out an album with absolutely no promotion and have it go straight to the top of the charts in less than 24 hours. Enough said.
But wait, let's not forget about our Latinos.
Top Latin Artist
In the Top Latin Artist category we have Marc Anthony, Gerardo Ortiz, Jenni Rivera, Prince Royce, and Romeo Santos.
Our pick is Marc Anthony. It's been 43 weeks since the release of his "3.0" album and Anthony still remains among the top 10 in the Billboard charts.
The 2014 Billboard Music awards airs live on Sunday May 18 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC. Will you be watching?
