Street Fighter Assassin's Fist Trailer, Twitter, & Release: Live-Action Online Series Will Debut May 23
Shoryuken! This is the immortal phrase of the "Street Fighter" video game, and now the "Street Fighter" is going to be reborn again with a new online series adaptation.
Just ignore the Jean-Claude Van Damme "Street Fighter" 1994 film version and give this one a chance. This 2014 "Street Fighter" appears to have depth, good storytelling and a great online fan following that has been able to influence the series into existence. And that is just based off the trailer and a past 2010 short film.
In the 2014 "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist," it will be an online live-action series and still based on the Capcom's fighting game of the same name. The series will be debuting on the YouTube channel Machinima on May 23. The trailer alone has already received huge buzz. It was also posted on Twitter.
"Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist" centers around Ryu and Ken, who are living a traditional warrior's life in secluded Japan. Unbeknownst to the young boys, they are the last practitioners of the ancient fighting style "Ansatsuken" or "Assassin's Fist." The series will be following them as they learn about the mysterious past of their master GÅken and the tragic, dark legacy of the Ansatsuken style, the Nerd Reactor reported.
The advent of the Internet has been able to give "Street Fighter" a fighting chance in the world of movies and direct-to-video entertainment. The legacy of the "Street Fighter" started in 2010 when a three-minute short film titled "Street Fighter: Legacy" was released onto the internet, Joystiq reported. To date, "Legacy" still has five-million views. (You can find the short film below this article.)
The actors that were featured in "Legacy" will reprise their roles in "Assassin's Fist." Again, John Foo ("Batman Begins" and "Universal Soldier: Regeneration") will play Ryu; Christian Howard ("Green Street 3: Never Back Down") will play the blond Ken. And, the show's creator Joey Ansah ("The Bourne Ultimatum") will also reprise his role as Akuma; both Ansah and Christian Howard wrote "Legacy" as well as "Assassin's Fist."
Not every live-action online series has been successful, but "Legacy" and "Assassin's Fist" are using the model from "Mortal Kombat: Legacy." "Mortal Kombat" also debuted their online series in 2011 to great success. You can thank Machinima for that once again because they also distributed the live-action series based on the "Mortal Kombat" fighting games, Gamespot reported.
Get your fists up and mark your calendars for May 23 -- the debut of the online "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist" is coming. (Click here to the official website.)
