ABC 'Rising Star' Premiere Date & Cast: Ke$ha, Ludacris, and Brad Paisley Will Judge New Singing Competition
ABC's new show "Rising Star" is more than just a music competition: It's a game changer.
At least that's what the ABC site tells us.
The celebrities that will take part in the new "game-changing show" include rapper and actor Ludacris, pop star Kesha, and country music star Brad Paisley as part of the show's expert panel. Singer/songwriter Josh Groban will be the competition's host.
So what is "Rising Star?" And how will it be different from the rest of the music competitions already flooding our TV screens?
Well, according to the official site, "'Rising Star' completely reinvents the traditional singing competition as -- for the first time ever -- the audience has the final say in real time. During the performances, viewers vote via an app to determine if the singer will advance in the competition. If the voting reaches a certain threshold, the performer moves on."
"Rising Star" fans, get your smart phones ready!
Unlike other music competitions, such as American Idol, the "judges" for this particular show will not have a say in voting contestants on or off of the show. Instead, the expert panel will provide feedback for the competing contestants.
The fate of the performer is completely in the hands of the viewing audience.
Entertainment Weekly explained, as each singer takes the stage to perform during the live show, there will be a big video wall separating the singer from the audience. As the song progresses and as viewers begin to vote in real time, photos of the singer's voting fans will appear on the giant video screen.
If the singer reaches a certain level of votes, the screen will go up and reveal the performer to the audience as a "rising star."
