Spurs Wins First Home Christmas Game As They Dominate The Bulls
After some shaky moments, the San Antonio Spurs are right back up their feet. Proving their newfound stability is their Christmas Day win against the Chicago Bulls, 119-100, marking the first Christmas win at the AT&T Center.
The Spurs started strong with a 26-8 lead in the game's opening quarter, and didn't look back. The Bulls threatened the lead with three deadlocks (63, 67 and 71), and even led by three points on the third. The team, with Gregg Popovich at its helm, regroups and goes back to its signature "basic basketball" to thwart the advance of Jimmy Butler and the rest of Chicago.
LaMarcus Aldridge sets the pace for the team, making his first 11 shots, and ending with 33 points and 15 of 20 from the field. Kawhi Leonard finishes with a double-double of 25 points and 10 rebounds, while teammates Tony Parker ends with 13 points and Pau Gasol finishing with 12.
Dewayne Dedmon is another story for the Spurs. Signed for a two-year, $6 million contract, this big man has been developed into another strong support for the team, and his performance against Chicago proved the improvements the Spurs program has made, SB Nation reports.
For the Bulls, who won in their previous matchup against the Spurs in Chicago, wasn't able to do much to counter the flaming hands of Aldridge and the team. Dwayne Wade, who finished with 24 points, stated that while the Bulls had the same plan from the last encounter, the Spurs were definitely making their shots this time around, according to ESPN. Butler, who brought his team's only lead through a three-pointer, ended with 19 points.
The Spurs had a turbulent time since the retirement of former team captain Tim Duncan. While the team was winning games, the chemistry was still quite off, especially when Parker got sidelined due to injuries. The team now moves to 25 wins to 6 losses, leading the Southwest division with a 2-game winning streak. The Bulls, on the other hand, is on the fourth place in the Central Division with 14-16, only above Detroit.
