Cody Garbrandt Aims For Number Two Spot On Bantamweight Knockout List
The bantamweight UFC 207 is set for an intriguing fight as Dominick Cruz takes on Cody Garbrandt in the title clash.
In a report published by Fox Sports in November, Dominick Cruz, the bantamweight titleholder, was predicted to fight Garbrandt. The expected face-off generated a lot of heat in UFC as Cruz is 2-0 this year with victories over T.J. Dillashaw and Urijah Faber.
As a precursor to the expected fireworks in the title bout, the two gladiators have started a wordy battle which has spilled over to new media. Each one has been giving interviews in which one has squabbled over the other and vice-versa.
Further, as per a report in MMA Junkie Garbrandt is on an unbeaten run of his own in the last four fights. This run is second only to Cruz's five successive wins. The report adds that Garbrandt has ten career wins out of which nine have been by knockouts.
The report further chronicled Garbrandt's many achievements. He has three UFC bantamweight competition victories by knockout, which is fourth from top in the history of the division. He has five knockdowns in UFC which is second only to Wineland with six.
In knockdowns per fifteen minutes of UFC competition fighting he lands a rate of 2.38 knockdowns which is third with only Todd Duffee with a rate of 2.72 and Marcos Rogerio de Lima with a rate of 4.29 ahead of him.
The UFC 207 is slated for a memorable night with two high voltage title matches featuring Amanda Nunes, champion in women's bantamweight, facing-off with Ronda Rousey, and the much awaited Garbrandt's fight with Cruz.
Despite Garbrandt's impressive run up to the title fight he has his task cut out to tame Cruz. Cruz's record is simply too overwhelming, and Garbrandt has to be on top of his form if he were to become champion and just not number two.
