LeBron James to Rest as Cavs Take On Pistons Monday Night – Cavs Trails Behind Pistons on Halftime
Coach Tyronn Lue must be kidding when he announced that LeBron James is sitting out Monday night's game against the Detroit Pistons. This decision came 90 minutes before the game began. Cavs coach said that LeBron had to take a rest with him playing for 40 minutes against Golden State Warriors on Sunday earning the team a one point victory (109-108).
ESPN reported that LeBron James played 40 minutes on Sunday finishing the game at 31 points and a season record 13 rebounds, two steals and four assists. Lue considered resting his star player eyeing tough days ahead.
Coach Lue made this decision out of consideration for his players. Kyrie Irving also played 44 minutes last Sunday but he decided to keep him as they battle the Pistons today. Lue explained that he chose to rest James since Kyrie was able to take six days off last week as well as Kevin Love.
NBA mentioned that Cleveland lost the two other games that LeBron did not play. They lost at Indiana on November16 and another game in Memphis on December 14. As of press time, the Cavs are struggling to get past the Pistons at halftime. The Detroit Pistons lead the game at halftime with 50 - 44.
This is the fifth game in seven days for the Cleveland Cavaliers which has also influenced Lue's decision to give his star player a day off. But the way the Pistons are clobbering the Cavs, he might just change his mind last minute.
Update: The Cleveland Cavaliers are slowly inching up past the Pistons at 49 - 52 with less than 10 minutes of the third quarter. The Cavs might just make it considering Irving and Love were able to rest well before the game. The Pistons may just give in to the Cavs who are giving it their best. The game continues at The Palace at Auburn Hills, Michigan.
