Zach Galligan who plays Billy Peltzer in "Gremlins" movies 1 and 2 has released a statement regarding "Gremlins 3." He has said that the third installment was being fought over by directors Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg. The former was reportedly awarded the project who Galligan describes as "aggressively working" on it.

Galligan adds that Colombus was attached to "Gremlins 2" but declined on being a part of it, Daily Mail notes. The premise of "Gremlins 3" will be done in a present setting and will likely see the return of old characters along with new ones. Columbus reportedly had to "wrestle" some control back in order to be in the third movie.


The franchise will reportedly have no remakes or reboots but only sequels. Additionally, "Gremlins 3" has already found a writer and will likely be under Warner Bros.

The original "Gremlins" movie was released in 1984 and directed by Joe Dante with its screenplay written by Chris Columbus. "Gremlins 2" was released 6 years later in 1990 which was directed by Joe Dante and Chuck Jones. With that said, it's been more than 15 years since the last installment.

ComicBook reports that Galligan's statements did not confirm or deny the possibility of "Gremlins 3" being made into a film. The outlet adds that Columbus has said that Warner Bros will definitely make the movie even without him on board. It may only be a matter of time before new information will be released about the movie. There is no current release date for "Gremlins 3" nor an official statement from the studio.
