Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Release Date, Specs, Price, Rumors 2014: Hybrid Tablet Unveiled in New York City
Microsoft introduced its Surface Pro 3 tablet at an event in New York City Tuesday. The new tablet is labeled as "the tablet that can replace your laptop."
At the event, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella told the invite-only crowd that 96 percent of people carrying iPads also have a laptop in their backpack. Could this new tablet remove the need to carry both?
The new tablet will be ultra-thin, only 9.1mm, making it the "thinnest Intel Core product ever made." But, it will have a large screen (12 inches). The Surface Pro 2 only had a 10.6-inch screen.
Weighing just 1.76 pounds without a keyboard, the Surface Pro 3 is going to be quite easy to carry around. Being so light, the Surface Pro 3 will compete not only with other tablets but with the lightweight laptop the MacBook Air.
You'll be able to comfortably use the Surface Pro 3 on your lap thanks to the improved hinges on it. Microsoft is calling this "lapability."
Another interesting feature for the new tablet is the multi-position kickstand. The kickstand will allow you to prop your tablet on a table or desk at almost any angle.
The Surface Pro 3 will have a Pen that will respond just like a pen. The company refuses to call it a stylus. The lag time from jotting on the screen with the pen and it appearing on the screen is said to be none. Users will be able to click a button on the pen that will activate the screen and open up OneNote. All notes created in OneNote will be stored in the cloud and instantly shareable.
Photoshop will be optimized for the Surface Pro 3. It will be called Photoshop CC, and it will allow users to interact with photos with touch gestures. This is the first Photoshop CC that has been designed and optimized for Windows tablets.
It will go on sale Wednesday for $799.
