Radamel Falcao to Play in 2014 World Cup?
The Colombian superstar Radamel Falcao suffered an injury last week and was forced to have an ACL surgery that would likely keep him out for about six months.
"I am convinced that everything is going to be OK and I will be able to give the best I have (at the World Cup)," Falcao said during a press conference at the Trindade de Oporto hospital, according to ESPN. "When they told me at first that I had a serious injury and there was only a small chance of participating (in Brazil), I didn't care whether it was 10, 20 or 50 percent. I was counting on that chance.
"This is my hope and with this dream I will work every day. A lot has to do with my emotional state. This is something that I can manage each day."
Falcao has never participated in the World Cup. He is 27 years old and may never have another chance to participate in the big tournament as he would be 31 when it comes around in four years. Colombia finished second in the CONMEBOL standings this cycle, but most of its core players are in their prime and would be on the wrong side of 30 by the time 2018 comes around. That means that Colombia may not be in prime position to qualify for the tournament in Russia. The addition of Brazil to the competition will not make it any easier for Colombia.
