'Dancing With the Stars' 2014 Results: ‘DWTS’ Winners Announced; Who Took Home the Mirror Ball Trophy?
"DWTS" fans, we have a winner!
Olympic gold medalist Meryl Davis and her partner Makism Chmerkovskiy took home the Mirror Ball trophy for this year's season of "Dancing with the Stars."
Last season's winner Amber Riley also appeared on the show to perform and pass the mirror ball over to the new champions Meryl and Maks, who ended the night with an astounding foxtrot/cha cha routine that earned them a perfect score from the judges.
Upon the announcement of their win, it seemed that the biggest excitement came from Maks who, TIME reports, has competed on 14 seasons of "DWTS" and has never won -- until now, that is.
"Aw man," said Maks, as he stood by his winning partner, Meryl. "It means so much. To do it with Meryl is a dream come true. There's a reason it didn't happen before -- because it was meant to happen with this one."
Meryl also chimed in and gushed that Maks has "taught me so much, not just about dance, but about growing as a person."
The excitement and applause for the two winners did not stop there, though. "DWTS" judge Carrie Ann praised the two winners for their impeccable skill and precision in their winning finale performance of the foxtrot/ cha cha.
"The best part of the season was you two," said Carrie Ann. Len said, "This might be my last season, and if it is, I couldn't wish for a better dance to watch to finish up with."
Congrats, Meryl and Maks!
The entire cast of this year's season was in attendance for the joyous occasion. Each cast member had a moment in the spotlight to perform one of their most popular dance routines on the show.
There were also musical performances by Christina Perri, Ariana Grande, and a sound glitch during Iggy Azalea's performance. Perhaps Iggy's frustration with the rocky performance made her go home afterwards because she did not appear on stage with Ariana to perform their hit duet, "Problem."
Better luck next time, Iggy.
All in all, the "Dancing with the Stars" season 18 finale did not disappoint. It was everything big, bold, and entertaining that we would expect in a two hour and 45 minute grand finale.
