Nevada congressmen are in agreement on supporting five bills that will reinforce state laws against human trafficking. Organized crime in the U.S. has seen human trafficking become its fastest-growing business in recent years, especially in Las Vegas. International tourism is booming in Las Vegas, making it a big attraction for human traffickers. Urban counties around the U.S. have seen a rise in this terrifying phenomenon in recent years.

One bill would allow a grant program amounting to $25 million so the Department of Justice can assist communities in providing training to first responders and to help in the competent and effective prosecution of sex traffickers.

There are also bills that center on helping victims by building reliable support systems. Victims of human trafficking are usually girls around the age of 13, although people of any age or gender might be targeted.

The five bills are:

  1. H.R. 3530 (Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act)
  2. H.R. 4058 (Preventing Human Trafficking and Improving Opportunities for Youth in Foster Care Act)
  3. H.R. 3610 (Stop Exploitation through Trafficking Act)
  4. H.R. 4225 (Stop Advertising Victims of Exploitations Act)
  5. H.R. 4573 (International Megan's Law)

A huge amount has already been spent by Metro Police to rescue children involved in human trafficking. Approximately 150 children were saved from human traffickers last year. Over 2,000 children were reported to have been saved since 1994.

Advertising human trafficking is a crime, but some people are earning big amounts of money by doing it, particularly online.

The Senate will still have to consider the bills on human trafficking. Although several bills will take months before being approved as laws, the passing of the five bills is considered a big achievement in the current political situation and a sign that good policy can still trump partisan politics.
