"Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts made a rare red carpet appearance with her longtime girlfriend Amber Laign for the GLSEN Respect Awards in New York City on Monday, May 19.

Roberts first went public about her relationship with Laign via a Facebook post last December regarding her bone marrow transplant. At the time when Roberts first publicly announced her relationship with Laign, the happy couple had already been dating for over a decade.

Talk about keeping things private.

In her Facebook post, she wrote, "I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together."

Despite Roberts' usually low-key relationship with Laign, it was quite a nice change to see the couple make an appearance on the very special GLSEN night. Roberts also shared a picture on Twitter of her and Laign smiling on the red carpet at the award ceremony.

The GLSEN Respect Awards stands for the Gay Lesbian & Straight Education Network's Respect Awards, which recognizes efforts made to create a safer environment for all students regardless of their sexual orientation. The GLSEN Respect awards is an annual event and this past Monday, GLSEN celebrated their 11th year.

Us Magazine reports that Roberts presented the Gay-Straight Alliance of the Year Award at the event.

"I'm delighted to support GLSEN, an incredible organization that is working to end bullying and make schools safer for LGBT students," Roberts said in a statement recognizing the work of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network. "I'm particularly happy to lift up the leadership of students who fight for respect and dignity for all," she continued.

Later, she retweeted another photo of herself with the students at the GLSEN awards. She wrote, "Honored to be with courageous students."
