NHL Playoffs Scores and Highlights: Los Angeles Kings Even Series With Blackhawks; Rangers Look to Go Up 3-0
The Los Angeles Kings ended the Blackhawks three-game win streak on Wednesday night in game two. The Kings avoided going down 0-2 in Chicago and defeated the reigning Stanley Cup Champions 6-2.
Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford had an off night allowing five goals on 30 shots. The sixth goal allowed was an empty-netter. The Kings dominated the Blackhawks in almost every statistic in game two. They took more shots, had more hits, and won more face-offs. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick only allowed two goals, and his defense helped him by not allowing many scoring chances. This victory will give the Kings momentum for game three heading back home to Los Angeles. Jeff Carter is going to have to stay hot to give the Kings the spark they need to defeat the Blackhawks.
Game three will be played Saturday night at 8 p.m. EST in Los Angeles.
In the Eastern Conference, the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens will both be playing their most important game of the season. The Rangers currently lead the series 2-0 after winning both games in Montreal and look to take a commanding 3-0 series lead at home. These two teams haven't played each other in the postseason since 1996, but they have had their rivalry moments before. Unfortunately for the Canadiens, they will be playing without their star goalie Carey Price after he suffered a knee injury in game one. The Canadiens have already said he is done for the remainder of the Eastern Conference Finals.
In other words, the Canadiens must somehow defeat the Rangers without their best player in four of the next five games.
Hendrick Lundqvist has been playing fantastic for the Rangers this entire season and has increase productivity during the postseason. The Swedish born goalie has a 10-6 record in the playoffs with an outstanding 1.93 goals against average. He has stopped 93.4 percent of the shots he's faced thus far and has won two game sevens with clutch play. In the two game sevens Lundqvist has played (against the Flyers and Penguins), he has allowed just one goal in each game. In game two Lundqvist faced 41 shots and only allowed 1 goal. There's been no doubt that so far he's the leading candidate for the 2014 Conn Smythe award.
The last Rangers goalie to win the Stanley Cup was Mike Richter in 1994. Game three will be played Thursday night at 8 p.m. EST at Madison Square Garden.
