US Immigration Information, Reform, Law & News 2014: Univision's Jorge Ramos Calls Out John Boehner
Univision and Fusion anchor Jorge Ramos didn't beat around the bush when talking to House Speaker John Boehner at a weekly press conference.
"Why are you blocking immigration reform?" Ramos said, according to the Huffington Post.
"Me? Blocking?" Boehner said.
"Yes, you," Ramos said. "You could bring it to a vote, but you haven't."
Ramos has long been a supporter of immigration reform. He has spoken out against Republicans in the past. Boehner has received some of the criticism as the speaker of the House, though he has also been praised for some of his work on immigration reform.
Boehner said, once again, that he wants immigration reform.
"The issue of immigration reform is an issue I've talked about for 18 months, starting the day after the 2012 election, and the fact that Congress needs to deal with this," Boehner said. "And I've made it clear we're not going to deal with the Senate bill, a 1,300-page bill that no one has read. We're not going to do it. I think moving in a piece-by-piece fashion on this, in a common-sense way, is the way to do this."
Boehner tried to place the blame on Obama, saying that he can't be trusted with enforcing the law. He used Obamacare as an example, but Ramos said there was no connection between the two. Instead, the Senate passed on the bill a year ago and hasn't done anything since. Ramos said that Boehner's leadership and vision are being questioned.
"There's nobody more interested in fixing this problem than I am," Boehner said. "But the president --"
"You can do it," Ramos said. "And you really haven't done it."
Boehner ended the conversation by thanking him and saying he appreciated his opinion.
