Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes Portuguese 'Knight,' Dreams of Winning World Cup 2014
Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he dreams of having a successful World Cup this summer in Brazil.
The Ballon d'Or winner is coming off his best year of his career and could potentially see his play improve throughout 2014. What is Ronaldo looking to do in the World Cup this summer? Lift the trophy.
"It would be a dream come true," Ronaldo said, according to Real Madrid's official website. "I do not want to downplay the titles I have won up until now, like this honor or the Ballon d'Or, but it would be a dream come true. We know that it is very hard and that we have to keep our feet on the ground. We will try to do our best and take it one step at a time."
Ronaldo's task will be far from easy. His nation has to navigate arguably the hardest group of the lot as Portugal will have to face Germany in its opener before facing the United States and then finishing off the group stage against Ghana. After that the team would play the first or second place team of a group that includes Russia, Belgium, South Korea and Algeria.
Ronaldo has already been recognized as a hero in his country as he was recently given the Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry award in Lisbon, Portugal's equivalent of knighthood.
"This motivates me even more," Ronaldo added about his recent success and accolades. "I will carry on working hard to win more trophies in my career. I am young and I will carry on playing to enjoy myself like I have up until now. Obviously, if I win titles and I manage to make a good entry in the history books in the world of football, all the better."
Can Ronaldo help Portugal lift the World Cup?
