'James Bond 24' Spoilers, News: Movie to Be Direct Sequel to 'Skyfall?'
Will the upcoming "James Bond 24" be a direct sequel to the immensely popular "Skyfall?" Screenwriter John Logan seemed to hint at the possibility during a recent chat with IGN.
"All I can say about Bond is that I'm happily writing it," Logan told IGN.com. "Sam [Mendes] would rappel through the window and kill me if I revealed anything on the plot."
He added, "My goal is to write a great movie that's appropriate, to build on what we did on 'Skyfall,' but make it its own unique animal ... The themes, ideas and characters of 'Skyfall' can obviously continue on, because it is a franchise, and it is an ongoing story. So I think there's resonance from 'Skyfall' in the new movie."
The last Bond film "Skyfall" featured a number of crucial developments. M, played by Judi Dench, died at the hands of Silva (Javier Bardem), who was promptly killed by Bond at the climax of the film. Mallory (Ralph Fiennes) took over M's position and is presumably the new "M" while Ben Whishaw was introduced as the tech whiz Q. Naomi Harris' character was also revealed as being the noted Moneypenny and it is likely that her relationship with the mercurial hero will develop in the upcoming installment.
This would be the second direct sequel in the franchise featuring current Bond star Daniel Craig. "Quantum of Solace" was a sequel to the franchise reboot "Casino Royale," but "Skyfall" had little to do with the two previous films aside from its main cast members. This should come as no surprise as "James Bond 24" will feature the same director, Sam Mendes. Of the Daniel Craig Bond movies, this is the first one to feature the return of a director; Martin Campbell helmed "Casino Royale" while Marc Forster directed "Quantum of Solace."
