Quentin Tarantino Discusses Plans for 'Django' TV Series: 90 Minutes of Unused Film Footage Will Turn Into Four Hour-Long Chapters
Quentin Tarantino has expressed his desire to create a "Django" miniseries during a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival. He said that the film's 90 minutes of unused footage can be edited and broken down into four chapters. Each chapter can run for one hour, which is enough to complete a mini-series of the movie that can be shown on cable TV. "It wouldn't be an endurance test, but a mini-series and people love those," Tarantino said.
"Django Unchained" was released in winter of 2012 and was an instant hit, winning Tarantino the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay last year. The movie tells the story of a pre-war slave whose wife was bought by a slave owner, prompting the slave to stage a gory retribution to hunt down said owner.
Tarantino said, "I have about 90 minutes worth of material with 'Django.' It hasn't been seen. My idea, frankly, is to cut together a four-hour version of 'Django Unchained.'"
"But I wouldn't show it like a four hour movie. I would cut it up into hour chapters. Like a four-part mini-series. And show it on cable television. Show it like an hour at a time, each chapter."
The cast of Django Unchained includes:
- Jamie Foxx as the pre-war slave Django
