AMC 'The Walking Dead': Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan Get Award Nominations Ahead of Season 4 Emmy Awards 2014 Run
As "The Walking Dead" continues filming season five, those behind the show hope for big rewards for season four.
On May 2, Scott M. Gimple, "The Walking Dead" executive producer, participated in an Emmy Roundtable alongside others dominating the television industry today: Michelle Ashford ("Masters of Sex"), Julian Fellowes ("Downton Abbey"), Joel Fields ("The Americans") and Beau Willimon ("House of Cards"). The insightful discussion was released this week.
During the talk, Gimple shared why television is his medium of choice.
"It's the ongoing relationship with the audience -- where a movie is like an awesome date, a TV show is a marriage that you are entering into with an audience," he said. "And it can go on for years and years and years, and that also makes the storytelling incredibly powerful, if you're doing it right."
Gimple also joked that every "The Walking Dead" character is going to die "next episode, actually." Joking aside, however, the producer does have a vision of the show's conclusion.
"It's knowing thematically where you're going, knowing what you want to achieve, but almost accounting for expansion from that - having an end in mind that's flexible," he said. "And even, I would say, our show could keep going as a story, but it would be a new story."
The idea of doing the show with a new cast was also tossed around again.
"The characters that we have, we would tell all of their stories but use the environment to tell new characters' stories," Gimple said. "But that's wishful thinking that things would go on and on and on and on."
"The Walking Dead" is hoping to get some Emmy nominations this year. The official nominees will be announced on July 10, according to the Television Academy. Meanwhile, the show will have to settle for one small victory: Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon, has been named the Biggest Ass Kicker of 2014. He will get the award at SpikeTV's annual Guys Choice Awards, which will be taped on June 7. Reedus' character is also nominated for Most Dangerous Man and Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene, is nominated for the Jean-Claude Gahd Dam award. Winners in both categories will be chosen by fan votes.
Season five of "The Walking Dead" begins in October on AMC.
