Finally, this past week admitted kidnapper Ariel Castro was formally sentenced at a Cleveland, Ohio court to life imprisonment without parole, plus 1,000 years. Earlier, he pled guilty to over 937 charges including kidnapping, rape, and assault of the three women he held captive for over a decade.

When given a chance to speak, a KCTV news report quoted Castro as saying, "I'm not a monster. I'm sick. I'm not a violent person.

Reportedy, Castro insisted that he merely had an addiction to pornography, "I just don't realize that what I am doing is wrong. I am not trying to make excuses. I am a happy person inside."

During the hearing, one of Castro's three victims, Michelle Knight, delivered a powerful and emotional statement addressed to her captor. Knight recounted some of the worst moments of her captivity at Castro's home. The KCTV news report quotes:

"I missed my son every day, wondering if I would ever see him again...I was so alone. Days turned into nights and nights turned into an eternity. I spent 11 years in hell... Your hell is just beginning."

Knight was abducted and kidnapped by Castro in 2002 while on her way home from a friend's house. She had a two-year-old son at the time.

Knight added, "I will not let you define me. I will live on and you will die a little bit every day. I can forgive you, but I will never forget."

The three women -- Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina de Jesus -- were kidnapped on separate occasions between 2002 and 2004. They were held captive in Castro's Seymour home and sexually abused and assaulted. The three escaped May 6 after Berry kicked open a portion of the front door and cried for help.
