Angelina Jolie Opens Up About Cambodia Genocide Movie, Brad Pitt Divorce
Angelina Jolie visited Cambodia for the premiere of her new biographical historical thriller film "First They Killed My Father". The actress admitted that the country was the reason behind her "awakening".
In an exclusive interview with BBC, Angelina talked about her movie that is based on a true story of Khmer Rouge genocide. While talking she couldn't help but bring up the topic of Brad Pitt and their divorce.
"First They Killed My Father" is based on the memoir of the same name by Loung Ung and is directed by Angelina Jolie. The unfortunate Cambodian genocide claimed the lives of two million people.
Angelina is hoping that the film will help the Cambodians who are still coping with the trauma of the event. The actress first visited the country in 2001 while she was filming for her movie "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider."
Angelina mentioned that Cambodia holds a special place in her heart. She later adopted her oldest son Maddox from Cambodia. "First They Killed My Father" will be released on Netflix.
The 41-year old told BBC that she fell in love with Cambodia and its people long back. While learning about the tremulous history Angelina realized how little she knows about the world and it was the moment of her "awakening."
According to The Guardian, Angelina also opened up for the first time about Brad Pitt and their divorce. The actress admitted that it was a very difficult time for her.
According to Angelina her six kids are her focus right now. She believes even after the divorce they will still remain a family.
"We are and forever will be a family and so that is how I am coping," BBC quoted Angelina. "I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer."
Currently, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are undergoing custodial battle for their six children. Brad is ready for a shared custody but Angelina wants a sole custody.
