After a two-month delay, SimCity is finally coming to the Mac on August 29, announced game publisher Electronic Arts on Monday. Initially, SimCity's Mac version was scheduled for release Jun. 11. Due to quality problems, EA decided to postpone the release saying that it will be made available to Mac users by August instead.

On the company's website, Senior Producer Kip Katsarelis said in a blog entry dated June 6:

"Hi, Mayors -- today we are announcing that we are moving the release date of the Mac version of SimCity to August. We have made this tough decision because we do not believe it is ready for primetime yet. We want to ensure the Mac is a great experience for our players and that is why we are taking more time."

Aside from the delayed release of SimCity's Mac version, EA has also encountered several problems with the famous game. During its PC version launch Mar. 5, the servers were not able to handle the huge number of players who were excited to try out the game. Many players were not able to access the game due to the server's failure to handle the massive number of users. Because of this, it is said that users resorted to petitions and even hacking attempts to try to play the game offline. According to another report, there were also several complaints regarding the game's need for a persistent internet connection for it to run smoothly.

SimCity's Mac version was said to be entirely rewritten through OpenGL to make way for a cross-platform game. This allows users and players to compete and collaborate whether one user in on a Mac and the other user is on a PC. SimCity's Mac version will be available for download for free to those who have already purchased the PC version through EA's download service, Origin.
